The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun State Sector Command, has disclosed that it will deploy no fewer than 1,700 from the corps to monitor major flashpoints during the coming festive period, to enhance the safety of road users.

The corps also announced that it had reached a pact with the state’s judiciary, to set up mobile courts to summarily try traffic offenders during the Christmas and New Year celebrations.

Disclosing this in a statement at the weekend, the state’s Sector Commander, Mr. Clement Oladele, appealed to motorists to demonstrate “the reason for this season by showing love to fellow road users, by sharing the road responsibly and obeying traffic rules to arrive home safely to celebrate with their loved ones”.

He also urged them to imbibe the theme of this year’s Special Patrol Operations of “Road Safety is a state of mind, traffic crash is an absence of mind – stay safe, stay alert”.

The Sector Commander, therefore, warned that any motorist apprehended flouting traffic rules during the Yuletide could be treated as driving dangerously and could be prosecuted.

Specifically, he said a total of 1,700 of his personnel comprising regular and special marshals of the FRSC had been mobilised and deployed to oversee traffic activities on highways across Ogun state, especially the Lagos – Ibadan, Sagamu – Ijebu Ode, Sagamu-Mosinmi-Ikorodu, and Abeokuta-Sagamu roads.

Others, he said, include: Abeokuta-Ibadan, Abeokuta-Ifo-Sango/Ota-Lagos corridors, and the Ota – Idiroko international corridor.

Meanwhile, the Ogun State Police Command has also launched a special security outfit code-named “Operation Restore Hope”, to enable the state achieve a hitch-free Christmas and New Year celebrations.

The state Police Commissioner, Mr. Kenneth Ebrimson, who addressed a press conference on Tuesday in Abeokuta, said the special security arrangement was part of the efforts by his command to sanitise and ward off criminals during and after the Yuletide season.

Ebrimson said, “Op. Restore Hope” at this time becomes necessary in view of the fact that the state would be witnessing influx of people who are expected to travel along the Ogun corridors for one religious activity or the other, and it is the duty of the police to ensure their safety.

“As we all know, the state is the host of international headquarters of several religious institutions such as the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Celestial Church of Christ (CCC), NASFAT, Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFMM) among others. The command has put in place, a robust and elaborate security arrangement under an operation code named “Operation Restore Hope” to ensure a hitch free celebration”.
