The Federal High Court, in Abuja, on Thursday, restrained the Federal Government from extraditing Sen. Buruji Kashamu, to the United States to face drug-related charges.

Justice Okon Abang, who delivered the judgement, ruled that the Federal Government and its agents had no power to initiate extradition proceedings against Kashamu due to subsisting judgements and orders in his favour, which are yet to be challenged.

The judge cited the judgements delivered by the Federal High Court, Lagos on January 6, 2014 (in suit No:49/2010) and July 1, 2016 given by the Federal High Court, Abuja (in suit No: 479/2015), which barred extradition of Kashamu due to the U.S. drug allegation, which are still subsisting.
