Women group makes case for representation in policy-making

The strength of a woman in any nation, with particular reference to Nigeria, cannot be over emphasized or pushed aside.

This is the assertion of the National President, Stand-up for Women Society (SWS), Barr. Deborah Ijadele-Adetona when she visited Port Harcourt, Rivers state and Akwa Ibom on a familiarization tour of the South-South zone of Nigeria.

The president, who went round with the South-South Zonal Vice President, Mrs Joy Owhonda and the South-South Zonal Coordinator, Mrs. Timinepere Jombo Idoko said the familiarization of the General Congress is the starting point of the action plan for development that would drive women issues to a greater height.

Barr. Ijadele-Adetona, who said the Stand-up for Women Society (SWS), is solely a woman organization, aiming at promoting; updating and upgrading women in Nigeria also outlined some of the aims and objectives of the distinguished group.

According to her, the SWS will be bedrock as well as a mouth piece for Nigerian women with the intent to liberate, promote and enforce the courses of women in the society.

“As a unique group, the SWS is aimed at galvanising support and draw attention to total development of women, involve them in policy formulation and full participation in governance at all level,” she submitted adding that, the organization will also give responsibilities, roles and voices to our women at all levels of governance,” she declared.

Speaking further, the woman activist added that her group would even play active roles as a forum to liberate and actualize the rights of women to fill the missing gap for active grassroots forum for women in the community and the nation.

Speaking on behalf of the Zone, the south/South  zonal vice president Mrs Joy Owhonda and the coordinator Timinepere Jombo Idoko noted that the zone will be up and doing and will not tolerate any form of indiscipline from women and members in the zone.

They went further to direct all state Chairpersons in the zone to submit their work plan in two weeks’ time to enable the zone have a direction in moving women forward in the zone and the nation.

Highpoint of the Congress is the introduction of the state’s executives to the members noting that their inauguration will take place immediately after the national inauguration coming up on the 13th of March 2021 in Abuja.
