Wicked! Couple in soup for allegedly poisoning stepson to death over suspected witchcraft

Operatives of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command have arrested a couple for allegedly poisoning their 10-year-old stepson to death.

The suspects, one Akan Jimmy Umoh and his wife, Rita Jimmy Umoh of Ekpat Iduot, Abak Local Government Area of the state reportedly poisoned Saviour Jimmy Umoh whom they suspected to be responsible for their misfortunes and economic downturn through witchcraft.

The  victim was also accused of being responsible for  his half siblings’ poor performance in school.

A statement in Uyo on Tuesday, by the command’s spokesman, Odiko Macdon, SP, said  the couple administered ‘poisonous beans’ on the late Saviour.

“On 29th August, 2021, at about 4:30pm, relying on information received from one Mfon Francis, of Ekpat Iduot village that one Akan Jimmy Umoh and his wife Rita Jimmy Umoh of same address, conspired and poisoned to death her stepson, one Master Savior Jimmy Umoh, a 10 year old boy on the allegation of witchcraft.

“Detectives of Abak Division swiftly responded and arrested the duo of Akan and Rita Jimmy Umoh who are father and step-mother of the deceased,” the statement said.

“On interrogation, suspects confessed to have administered poisonous concoction called “Evil Beans” on the child to remove witchcraft, which they, according to prophecy, claimed was the cause of their economic misfortunes and health challenges including the poor academic performance of his half siblings.”

The statement further said on searching the house, the police discovered a boldly written inscription on the wall by the step-mother, saying: “Saviour is the witch of this house”.

It also disclosed that photographs were taken while the remains of Saviour were taken to the mortuary, awaiting autopsy.
