Why Tinubu refused Betta Edu audience

The Presidency has given reasons the suspended minister of humanitarian affairs and poverty alleviation, Betta Edu, was not allowed to see President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The minister is enmeshed in a N585 million scandal in her ministry.

Edu, who was suspended on Monday, January 8, was seen in a video posted on the TVC’s YouTube page leaving the Presidential Villa after she was prevented from seeing the President hours after her suspension.

However, shedding more light on the development, the Special Adviser to the president on media and publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, who was interviewed on TVC, said the move was to allow for transparency and accountability on the directive given to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, by Tinubu.

Ngelale said: “It was in the wisdom of the president to inaugurate an investigative panel that will be tasked with conducting a comprehensive investigation of the financial framework of the social investment programme, to ensure that we put in place fireworks that will really enhance the integrity of those programmes and ensure that the participants of the population of our country that are intended to benefit from those programmes are the exclusive beneficiaries of those programmes.”

Meanwhile, the suspended minister already has a date with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, which had been mandated to probe the transaction.
