Why I shut Atiku’s Campaign Office in Port Harcourt, by Gov. Wike

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has given reasons as to why he closed the Port Harcourt office of the People’s Democratic Party’s Atiku/Okowa Presidential campaign two months before the election.

Due to the campaign office’s unapproved location, in Port Harcourt, according to Governor Wike, he had to close it down.

The governor claimed that in order to provide legal backing for the sealing of the campaign office, he invoked Executive Orders 21 and 22.

At the opening of the 17.2 kilometer-long Bori-Kono Road in the Baen community of Khana Local Government Area of the state. he made this announcement.

According to him, “A few days ago, Maeba and Abiye went to Igboukwu Street, D-Line (Port Harcourt) without the approval of the government to site a political office.

“We are talking about Executive Orders 21 and 22 that have now been taken over by the law passed by the State House of Assembly. We did not send the chairman of Port Harcourt council to go and bring it (the building) down. We have the power.”

The PDP is currently experiencing an internal crisis as a result of the national chairman of the party, Iyorchia Ayu, refusing to step down in order to make room for a southerner.

Due to the frequent changes in the party’s top positions, Wike is dissatisfied with the PDP’s leadership.

The PDP ignored the Southern region of the nation by allocating its presidential ticket and National Chairman to the North.

In order to do this, Governor Wike and the Integrity movement have pushed for the resignation of Dr. Ayu as the PDP’s national chairman.
