As Nigerians debate whether the 9-year-old arsonist who set Ebeano Supermarket on fire in Abuja on July 18, has co-conspirators, the girl has told the police why she lit the fire.
According to her, she used to see the action in movies and decided to reenact the same at the supermarket.
The girl, who was not named for legal reasons, said she followed her mother to the supermarket and left her and her sister and went to the inflammable items section at the supermarket because she sees it in movies.
When asked saw someone use the firelighter before, she said yes.
Nigerians have, however, expressed doubts over the actions of the girl with many saying she may have acted on instructions by someone or some people.
Singer, Timi Dakolo said the action of the girl is suspicious.
There is actually more to that Ebeano Supermarket burning. The said child went straight to a rack that has inflammable. She walked like she knew where she was going. Watched start burning before she left,” Dakolo said.
Others said it might be pure mischief and curiosity that led her to that section.
