Why I bought baby for N10,000 – Ondo Pastor

Anthony Iwuoma

A pastor in Ondo State, simply identified as Olawale, has narrated how he bought a baby for N10,000 from its 22-year-old mother.

The young mother, Seun Oladayo, sold the baby to the pastor, shortly after giving birth but Olawale later reported the transaction to Amotekun Corps.

According to the pastor, it was Seun’s brother, Yinka, that invited him to buy the baby for N10,000 since they had no plans of keeping the baby.

The pastor explained that he bought the baby to prevent the wrong people from doing so.

“I was told to bring N10,000 so that they can give the doctor N5, 000 for his job and I did because if I did not, another person would come and buy the baby,” the pastor said.

“The baby was given to me in a sack with the placenta and I went to Amotekun’s office to explain what happened and the woman was arrested, and she was handed over to the Police at Area Commander, Yaba in Ondo.”

Seun, a native of Abejoye area of Ondo town in Ondo West Local Government Area of Ondo State, said she decided to sell the baby because she had no means of caring for it since the man that impregnated her absconded on hearing that she was pregnant for him.

According to her: “I did it because I don’t know how I am going to take care of the baby. So, I told the pastor to take the baby away and bring N10,000.

“It is true I was dating a man called Tope. He asked me if I am pregnant so he could open a shop for me and I said yes. Since then, I did not see him again and I already have one child with me that I have been taking care of before I was pregnant again for Tope.”
