Lagos State governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Wednesday warned the 1,017 newly recruited officers of the Lagos State Transport Management Authority, LASTMA, his administration will not condone any corrupt practices or indiscipline from them.

At the passing out parade of Induction Course 10 of officers and men of the agency at the LASTMA headquarters, Oshodi, the governor reminded the recruits of his administration zero tolerance for corruption, urging them to be civil when discharging their duties.

The governor added any corrupt practices could land them in trouble, urging them to see their job as opportunity.

He assured them of his administration’s commitment to ease traffic in the state especially the recent ban on commercial tricycles and motorcycles. He reiterated that the ban was not to bring suffering to Lagosians but to protect lives and property.

” If we are to build a 21st century city, the ability to manage transport must be enhanced. I want to congratulate the graduates  and remind them there is no room for corruption or corrupt enrichment. We are determined to ensure LASTMA uphold the law. I urge you to tread carefully. I want to congratulate leadership of LASTMA.  I urge you to see your recruitment as opportunity to serve Lagosians,” he said.

He added: ” We have seen that the work you do is strategic and important. You have been given opportunity to serve the people, it must not be seen as privilege. Many are looking for such opportunity. Let me assure you our administration will continue to support you with tools you require. Our administration has zero tolerance to corruption. Harassment of citizens will also be frowned at. Any unnecessary action against the people will not be tolerated. Let us be civil. I want to encourage your seniors to collaborate with you and ensure you learn fast.”

While congratulating the recruits, the General Manager, LASTMA,  Olajide Oduyoye told the new officials Lagosians are expecting much from them and therefore must discharge their duties with respect.

” A lot of people do not accord you respect for the good job you are doing. Today, the job you are about to start is not a small job, a lot of Lagosians are expecting you to do the magical and the extra.
Present yourself with respect and be respectful. Do your job and nothing more. The word temptation should not be in your dictionary. It will come and bring disrespect to your job. Do not allow it to ruin the job you are doing. You will think you are doing some people favour but they might be setting you up. Don’t let anyone suppress what God has given you,” he warned.
