We’ll not relent on arrest of drug peddlers – NDLEA

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) Command, has arrested 33 suspects and seized 146.820 kilograms worth of various drug trafficking at the airport between January and June this year.

NDLEA Airport Commander, Mr. Garba Ahmadu, who disclosed this in an interview with newsmen in commemoration of the World International Day of Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking said the seized includes cocaine, methamphetamine, cannabis sativa, heroine and ephedrine.

A breakdown showed 15.580kg of  cocaine 15.580 kg, heroin 14.720kg, cannabis sativa 54.140kg, methamphetamine 34.240kg and ephedrine 28.140.

According to the NDLEA commander,  28 males and five females were arrested with different mode of concealments in tomato cans, baby diaper, food stuff to body lotion containers and ingestion.

In 2016 at the MMIA, a total seizure of 779.916kg of different drugs was recorded, 2017, 12666.400kg and 2018, 5375.985 kg seized by the NDLEA.

Total number of suspects arrested, 2016, 103, 2017, 85 and 2018, 93.

He advised airlines to always deploy senior officials to airports for baggage tagging to avoid the Kano incident.
