The Lagos State Safety Commission, LSSC, on Friday said it has received over one thousand applications from religious organisations and centres through the ‘Register to Open’ online application, www.lasgsafetyreg.com, since it became active on Wednesday.

According to the Director-General/Chief Executive Officer of the agency, Mr. Lanre Mojola, at a press briefing to highlight the guidelines set for Religious Centres to operate following directive by the federal and state governments they can reopen, stated that the religious worship centres, both churches and mosques, must adhere strictly to guidelines such as holding their services on Fridays and Sundays, at 40 per cent maximum capacity, observing physical distancing, temperature checks, use of masks and disinfection of premises, before and after services.

He reiterated government stand on ban on children below the ages of 15, including babies and adults over the age of 65, not allowed to participate in such gatherings, and urged parents to make arrangements for caregivers to stay with their kids while going for services or rotate attendance at church services so each of the parents can take turn to care of their infants at home.

He, however, said event centres used for religious purposes will be allowed to hold religious services, provided they have obtained the ‘register to open certificate.’

He further said that while working closely with Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency, LASEPA, the Commission has sealed some event centres flouting the rules of the safety guidelines on COVID-19, and handed defaulters over to the Police for prosecution.

Omojola reiterated the commission determination to enforce the guidelines as directed by government.
