We didn’t attack Igboho’s residence – Nigerian Army

The Nigerian Army has refuted allegations that its operatives attacked the home of Yoruba separatist agitator, Sunday Igboho, in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

They also denied killing and taking away corpses of alleged victims of the attack.

The denial, however, is countered by a video of the incident that was released by Igboho’s supporters, which showed blood spills in the activist’s living room and damaged vehicles.

It was alleged that men dressed in military uniform attacked the house located in the Soka area of Ibadan in the early hours of Thursday and, destroyed valuable property there.

A commentator in a live video of the incident said the soldiers invaded the house in five patrol vans, Hilux, and private vehicles  through Iwo road from Soka after the attack.

Igboho’s wife and several others scores were also allegedly taken away by the soldiers.

The leader of the umbrella body of Yoruba self-determination groups, Ilana Omo Oodua, Banji Akintoye,  confirmed the attack, adding that the attackers killed seven persons and left with their bodies.

He said: “I want to say to the whole world that the attack was carried out by the elements of the Nigerian Army who were accompanied by international terrorists hired by the Nigerian state.

“The assailants spoke the French language fluently. Seven people were killed by the attackers, with their corpses taken away. Scores of people, including the wife of chief Ighoho, were also taken away by the gunmen.”

However, Nigerian Army spokesman, Gen   Onyema Nwachukwu told The Gazette that he was unaware of the incident.

“There’s nothing like that, I don’t have that information. Soldiers did not carry out an attack on Igboho,” he said.
