Razaq Bamidele

An Islamic Scholar and acting Imam of Abdul-Wahab Ratibi Mosque, Ota, Ogun State, Ustaz Ibrahim Olaitan bn Abdul-Wahab has advocated for a policy that would turn the irregular migrants in Africa to tools for economic advantages.

Bn Abdul-Wahab, in a chat with our correspondent Friday, reasoned that, instead of the usual hide and seek game being engaged in by the host countries and their irregular guests, the relationship can be regularised in a way that they (Migrants) could be useful to their hosts in several economic sectors.

According to the cleric, their arrival in several countries automatically swells up the population and the population could be turned into beneficial workforce that would contribute immensely to the host countries economic growth if properly harnessed.

The Scholar gave an example of agriculture as an avenue in which the irregular migrants could be deployed reminding that, “through that, all the vast fertile lands that lie fallow across Africa could be put in proper use to the advantage of the continent.”

This, according to the youthful Imam, would enhance provision of abundant food, create jobs for the jobless teeming youth and also serve as an indirect ways of disposing the insurgents off their hiding places.

“Apart from the fact that such a policy would guarantee food security, it would also serve as anti-crime, anti-terrorists and ant- insurgence as there would be no more hiding places for the bandits across the continent,” the concerned cleric suggested.

“In addition to that, some professionals among them could be employed to train our youth in different vocations and trades for empowerment purposes,” he stressed, admitting though that, “there should be a kind o regulation of the influx to curb infiltration of bad eggs that are available in all the countries across the globe.”

Quoting copiously from the glorious Qur’an, Bn Abdul-Wahab, reminded that, “All of us throughout the world are the same big family from God irrespective of creeds, colours, languages, tribes or religious leaning,” adding, “we are all descendants of the same father, Adam and same mother, Hauwau (Eve).”

Against that divine exposition, the cleric stressed the need for mutual trust and understanding, saying, “the purpose of creation is for unity, peaceful co-existence, good neighbourliness and not for unnecessary discrimination.”Attachments area
