Prof. Adeniyi Olayanju, Vice-Chancellor, Landmark University, Omu-Aran, on Wednesday urged the institution’s engineering students to strive toward bringing on board remarkable innovations in their respective fields.
Olayanju gave the charge in his welcome address at the 2019 Committee of Deans of Engineering and Technology of Nigerian Universities (CODET) Competition, North Central Zone, hosted by the institution.
He said that the students, as leaders of tomorrow, were favoured to become deans of engineering in future.
“Engineering with remarkable innovations drives growth and development.
“It is one thing to impart knowledge on you as students, especially theoretical, but it is another thing for you to acquire skills, more importantly with the right attitude.

“So, for me, it’s all about knowledge, about skills and about the right attitude for you to achieve the desired remarkable innovations in your chosen fields,” he said.
According to him, engineering is very important in nation-building.
Olayanju praised the competition organisers for their foresight, saying it would greatly assist in creating the enabling platform for the emergence of new, remarkable engineers among the younger ones.
Prof. Babatope Alabadan, the Dean Faculty of Engineering, Federal University Oye-Ekiti, who doubled as the Chief Judge for the competition, said it was organised to encourage and motivate students in engineering fields.
“The competition is a baby of CODET and the whole essence is to serve as an avenue for engineering students to showcase their innovations and skills.
“By competing with other students from other universities, they will be able to learn more and improve on their capabilities,” he said

Prof. Christian Osueke, the Dean of the College of Engineering, Landmark University, described the competition as a veritable platform for students to test their engineering prowess with other competitors.
He thanked CODET for the honour and recognition given to the institution to host the competition in the North-Central zone.
“We are happy for this singular honour from CODET and we also look forward to a better outing in Abuja in August, at the finals,” he said.
NAN reports that students of Landmark University and Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi, participated in the single and group categories of the CODET North-Central competition.
A student from Landmark University the first position in the single category, while the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi, won the first position in the group category.
The first, second and third place winners in the two categories were selected to represent the zone in the final competition in Abuja in August. (NAN)
