VC urges FG to fence FUDMA main campus to enhance learning

The Acting Vice- Chancellor, Federal University Dutsinma, Katsina State, Prof. Adamu Baba-Kutigi has urged the Federal Government to consider a Special Presidential Intervention to fence the university main campus.

Baba-Kutigi made the call on Saturday in Dutsinma during the fourth convocation ceremony of the institution.

“Though academic activities have commenced at the Main Campus, students and staff cannot live or even stay late hours on the campus.

“What is urgently needed is the fencing of the university, in view of its open and porous nature.

“Your Excellency may wish to consider a Special Presidential Intervention to fence the campus,” he said.

The Acting Vice-change Chancellor further advised the government to provide staff accommodation, good road network and more student hostels in the institution.

He said that the university was established in 2010 and commenced academic activities on July 14,2012, with three faculties and 23 accredited programmes.

The professor said that the maiden convocation was held on Jan. 23,2016, adding that second and third combined convocations was held on Jan. 27,2018.

He disclosed that 430 students a

graduated from the 29 departments and six faculties in institution.

He said that 24 of them had First Class degrees, 181, Second Class Upper, 178, Second Class Lower, while the remaining 47 hafThird Class degrees.

The Chancellor of the university, King Dandeson Douglas Jaja, said that fencing the University would enable it utilise the structures and facilities provided at the main campus effectively.

He also urged philanthropists and private organisations to assist the university to enable it grow.

The chancellor congratulated the graduands and urged them to be good ambassadors of the university in whatever capacity they might find themselves.(NAN)
