UPDATED: South West govs, senators, Reps reach agreement on Constitution review

Governors of the South West geopolitical zone and their federal lawmakers in the Senate and House of Representatives, on Tuesday, agreed to have a common front on the ongoing review of the 1999 Constitution.

This was part of the resolution of the political leaders from the South West who met, in Abuja late, on Tuesday.

At the meeting, which ended at about midnight, the political leaders also put in place modalities to achieve their objectives.

One of such is that they have empanelled a body, which includes all the Attorney General from the six states in the geopolitical zone and Caucus Leaders in the Senate and House of Representatives.

Addressing the newsmen after closed door meeting, which lasted for two hours, the Chairman of the Forum, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State, said the lawmakers agreed to present a common stand on the review of 1999 Constitution.

Governor Akeredolu said the Panel set up would harness their position on the matter and present it when necessary.

All the governors from the South West attended the meeting, which took at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja.

Apart from Governor Akeredolu, others present were Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State, Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State and Gboyega Oyetola of Osun State.
