UPDATED: How man killed 25-yr-old lover over alleged child paternity, payment of bride price

Tragedy struck on Sunday, at Victory Point Estate, Ilasan, Lagos State, after a man, Chris Ndukwe, allegedly stabbed his lover, Olamide Alli to death with a kitchen knife, and afterwards, gulped two bottles of sniper, killing himself.

Information had it that the couple, who had been in a relationship for close to eight years, and had two male children, aged 7 and 3, have had issues bothering on the paternity of their last child, payment of bride price and infidelity.

Sources close to the family revealed that the relationship between the couple had been complicated, forcing them to live apart.

It was learnt that while Ndukwe 39, lived at Victory Point Estate, Alli, 25,  lived at Ogba.

However, the Nigerian Xpress gathered that Alli had on Ndukwe’s request, travelled with the kids to spend the weekend with him at the estate.

A resident who spoke on the incident claimed they last saw the couple with their children jogging in the estate, on Saturday evening.

Giving details about the horrible incident, the resident who didn’t want his identity mentioned said, “We heard loud music coming from their house. We were not comfortable with the noise and some of us in the estate, who enjoy the peace and tranquility in the area, had to approach the estate authority that Sunday.

“When we got to the state office, two of their staff followed us to go warn the man of the disturbance he was causing. We however met with the wife’s sister who was downstairs with the couple’s children.

“The sister immediately went upstairs so she can inform her sister and the husband about the complaint laid by the estate authorities.

“She knocked several times but got no response. After waiting for so long, the sister and the estate officials decided to pull the door down. Surprisingly, the man and his wife were found dead.

“It was obvious the man had killed his wife. The woman’s legs and hands were bound and her mouth shut with a cellotape.

“The husband used a clipper to shave her hair, and stabbed her multiple times with a knife. We called the police who came and took the corpse away. ”

The Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, Bala Elkana, confirmed the incident to the correspondent.

Elkana, a Deputy Superintendent of Police(DSP) said the police was investigation, as autopsy will be carried out to determine the cause of death.

In a statement issued on Monday, the PPRO said: “ On Sunday evening, at about 4p.m., Ilasan Police Station received an information that, a couple identified as, Olamide Alli,  and Chris Ndukwe were found dead in the man’s residence at Road 5, House 16a, Victory Point Estate, Ilasan.

“A team of homicide detectives was deployed to the scene and the crime scene was preserved for forensic analysis. The woman was found laying in the pool of her blood with deep cuts on her head. The man’s mouth was foaming with whitish substance. It is alleged that the man stabbed the woman to death with kitchen knife and thereafter drank some poisonous substances suspected to be snipper insecticides.

“ Two blood stained kitchen knives, two empty bottles of the poisonous substances, three empty cans of red bull energy drink and a plier were recovered from the scene. The two corpses were removed and deposited in a public mortuary for autopsy. The woman is said to have visited the man alongside her 22-year- old sister, a night before the incident, on Ndukwe’s invitation.

“  Her sister was the first to have noticed that the couples were dead and raised alarm. In her statement, she was woken up by a loud music from the room where the corpses were found, as herself and the kids slept in a different room. It is not yet clear what might her triggered the murder. The Commissioner of Police Lagos State,  Hakeem Odumosu has ordered a thorough investigation into the case. Investigation is ongoing. ”
