Under-age voters’ll be arrested – INEC chair

Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, on Friday, said that under-aged voters would be arrested while trying to vote during Saturday’s Presidential and National Assembly elections.

The INEC boss said this while fielding questions from journalists at the last day of the Press Interaction with newsmen at the International Conference Centres.

The INEC chairman briefed the press in company of the acting Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu.

He maintained that the Commission, in collaboration with security agencies, to arrest any under-aged person trying to manipulate the process.

He also said that the National Collation Centre would be opened at 6:00p.m, on Sunday, for collation of election results.

On his part, Ag. IGP Adamu reiterated earlier stance that anyone found to be perpetrating vote-buying or ballot box snatching would be dealt with accordingly.

According to the Ag. IGP, “For emphasis, anyone found to be engaged in ballot box snatching and vote-buying, there will be consequences.”
