Umahi orders arrest, detention of LG chair, 39 others over alleged murder of 4 persons in Ebonyi

Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State has ordered the arrest and detention of the Chairman of Ohaukwu Local Government Area of the state, Mr Clement Odah, and 39 other stakeholders of the council, over the alleged murder of four persons in the area by suspected hoodlums from neighboring community of Agila in Benue State, on Wednesday.
Governor Umahi issued the directive, on Thursday, at the Executive Chambers Government House, Abakaliki, during a stakeholders’ meeting convened by the state government to brainstorm on the renewed boundary crisis between the people of the two states.
He directed that the Council boss and 39 others to report to the Department of Security Services (DSS) and the Police on daily basis for investigation on the happenings in the area.
“Police should arrest and detain the Local Government Chairman and 39 other stakeholders, they should go to the police and the Department of Security Services for investigation of what is going on,”
“The Chairman and the 40 stakeholders should make resolutions to the State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Awoshola Awotinde , their names should be announced in the radio and television”, he insisted.
He expressed regret that the crisis rocking the Council was politically motivated , and indicted the Council boss for the breakdown of law and order in the area.
“This is an indictment on the Council Chairman, you are not capable of protecting the lives of the people you swore to protect, I will not fold my hands and allow this things to continue”
The Governor also directed that the Chairman and others to be reporting to the police and DSS on daily basis, I am going to demystify politics in this State, in Ohaukwu there are talking about future elections in 2013.
“It is our people that are giving information to our neighbours in Benue State, they give them information on the whereabouts of our people leading to subsequent attack”
“What is happening in Ohaukwu Local Government Area is interest of the people, this killing is done by you people, I have directed for a comprehensive auditing of the resources of the council”.
