A Uganda man, Apostle John Mirembe has recounted his experience in the hands of EKEDC officials in Agbara area of Lagos State.

Mirembe told The Nigerian Xpress reporter that he arrived Nigeria on February 18, on a missionary work. He said he took refuge in a fellow Pastor’s house in Agbara, but he was surprised on what is happening in Nigeria, saying Nigeria is a very corrupt society.

He said: “I came for a missionary work, when the EKEDC officials came, they met me at home, I told them that the owner of the apartment went out. I expected them to go and come back the next day or tell the Pastor to report to their office as it is the tradition in my country. They were all telling me to do something or they will remove it. I was confused because I don’t know what they want me to do. They kept on asking me you don’t want to do something? It was when other neighbours came out and was giving them money that I was shocked. I don’t know the Nigerian currency but I later learnt they collected N 1000 from each flat to avoid disconnection of their light”.

“In my country you don’t give bribe to any government official, if you try it the person will arrest you. Even police will never collect bribe from you they will say you want to set them up. They are always afraid because if you give them bribe, you can still sue them and the government will listen to you instead of the officer”. He added.

Mr. Mirembe posited that he was given a serious lecture about Nigeria by the government of Uganda before he left the country. He said he was lectured on the dangers of travelling to Nigeria, but what he discovered upon arrival is that Nigerians are very accommodating.
