Uduaghan govt owed Trans-Warri/Ode-Itsekiri road contractor N8.8b, says Okowa

Sola Charles, Asaba

Governor Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State has said that Deltans should blame the immediate past administration of Dr. Emmanuel Ewetan Uduaghan for its failure to complete the Trans-Warri/Ode-Itsekiri road in Warri South Local Government Area.

Governor Okowa made the disclosure at the People’s Democratic Party (PDP)’s campaign held at the Warri Township Stadium, on Wednesday.

According to the governor, “You don’t have to blame me that the Trans-Warri/Ode-Itsekiri road is not completed. Blame the immediate past administration and not me.”

Governor Okowa disclosed that on assumption of office the past administration owed the contractor handling the project the sum of N8 billion.

Our Correspondent could not independently verify the claims as at press time, but Governor Okowa told the gathering during the campaign that, “Because of the debt, the contractor abandoned work and moved out of site.”

Governor Okowa, who was flanked by his Deputy, Mr. Kingsley Otuaro, Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Vincent Uduaghan, and others, said that on assumption of office, ”I mobilised the contractor back to site with N3 billion so that they can complete the project.”
