Udom commends N/army for gallantry against insurgency

Akwa Ibom State governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, has commended the efforts of the Nigeria Army in combating terrorism and stopping insurgents from gaining territories in the country.

Emmanuel spoke, weekend, during the 2 Brigade Combined West African Social Activity (WASA) 2019 at Wellington Bassey Barracks Sports Ground Ibagwa, Abak Local Government Area of the state.

The governor, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Emmanuel Ekuwem, commended the men of the Armed Forces for risking their lives to maintain peace and harmony, adding that the state is a beneficiary of that peace.

“I like to express appreciation to members of Armed Forces who work to ensure that there is peace, security and order.

“We cannot take for granted the peace, the bond, the collectivity that the Nigeria Army is trying to keep in this country.

“We will be forever grateful to members of the Armed Forces for risking their lives on a daily basis for us to be were we are today,” he said.

In his remarks, the Commander 2 Brigade of the Nigeria Army, Brigadier General Faruk Mijinyawa, expressed satisfaction over the performance of soldiers during 2019 Training Year in compliance with the Training Directive of the Chief of Army Staff and that of the General Officer Commanding 6 Division.

“All training and operational activities as well as exercises programmed for last year were conducted successfully by the Brigade. The Brigade performed excellently in all competitions organised by the Division,” he noted.

Mijinyawa explained that WASA is an annual event that is held to mark the end of successful training year, adding that the forum afford officers, soldiers, their families and friends, including the host community the opportunity to socialise and interact freely after strenuous year’s activities.

He urged the officers and the soldiers to be prepared and ready to face the new training year that has come, be disciplined and focus.

“As we begin yet another Training Year, I urge you all to tighten your belts, brace up and march on with great agility.

“We are commencing the training activities for this year next week with the Annual Medical Test and then the Annual Physical Efficiency Test.

The Brig. Gen. expressed appreciation to the State Government for rehabilitating some dilapidated buildings in the barracks, as well as thanked the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) for performing similar interventions.

He commended other security agencies for close collaboration and good working relationship in the previous training year.
