Two robbery suspects shot dead during gun battle with police

Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have gunned down two suspected armed robbers, terrorizing travelers and motorists along Shagamu Road.

The suspects were reportedly shot dead after the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Shagamu Police Division, Okiki Agunbiade, received a distress call that the suspects were unleashing mayhem on road users at shagamu interchange, along Lagos -Ibadan expressway.

According to a statement by the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Abimbola Oyeyemi, the suspects had attacked their victims and seriously injured one of them.

Oyeyemi said: “Upon the distress call, the DPO quickly led his patrol team to the scene where they met the robbers attacking another person, one Agba Enoch. The team engaged them in a gun duel, at the end of which two members of the gang were fatally injured while others escaped with gun shot injuries.

“Items recovered from them are: three handsets, one mock guns, one electric clipper, three ATM cards and one blood-stained cutlass.
The injured victim, one Adekunle Adewale, who was seriously matcheted on the head was rushed to the hospital for medical attention.

“Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police (CP) Edward Awolowo Ajogun, who commended the gallantry display of his men, has directed a massive manhunt for the fleeing members of the gang, with the view to bring them to justice.”

The PPRO said the CP also appealed to members of the public, especially hospitals, to quickly alert the police if anybody with gun shot injuries is seen in their area.
