Two police officers in trouble for extorting women of N10,000

Two policemen are in trouble for extorting a middle-aged woman of N10,000 at the Agbowa area of Ikorodu, in Lagos State.

The woman, whose identify was still unknown as at press time, had allegedly left her house in search of a mobile money agent, where she could withdraw money she intended to buy foodstuffs with.

The woman who shared a video narrating her encounter with the policemen, said she ran into the policemen on her way, and they offered to help her, directing her to a young man, where she withdrew N10,000.

Excited that she could restock her house with the said sum, the woman went back to her car to drive to a food market, only to be stopped by the policemen who impounded her car, and led her to the police division where she was extorted of N10,000.

The attention of the state police command was drawn to the video by concerned citizens, who called for investigation into the criminal act.

The call paid off as the policemen, ASP Adebayo Ojo, the Divisional Traffic Officers (DTO), and Sergeant Adeleke Mojisola, were arrested.

A statement by the Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, Elkana Bala confirmed the arrest, and the complainant was encouraged to report to the Lagos Police Command Headquarters in Ikeja to help with the investigation.

According to the statement, “Attention of Lagos State Police Command was drawn to a video on social media in which a Lady alleged that her vehicle was impounded by the Divisional Traffic Officer (DTO), Agbowa Division and a female sergeant.

“She equally accused the officers of extorting money from her. After analysing the video, the officers mentioned were identified by our operatives and arrested.

“They are Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Adebayo Ojo and Sergeant Adeleke Mojisola.

“The Commissioner of Police Lagos State, CP Hakeem Odumosu has ordered an indepth investigation into the case.

“While appreciating the courage of the complainant and other well meaning citizens who forwarded the video to our social media page, the Command urged the complainant to take a further step by reporting at the Command Headquarters Ikeja to enable the Command conclude the investigation.

“The Commissioner of Police has reaffirmed his stance against corrupt practices and impunity. Members of the public will be updated on the outcome of the investigation. ”
