A clash by suspected cultists in Ugep community in Yakurr Local Government Area of Cross River State has resulted in the killing of two of them.

One of the suspected cultists were allegedly killed by an angry mob in the village after killing the other.

According to the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Irene Ugbo, who confirmed the incident, one was killed on Monday while the second victim was killed, on Tuesday, in a likely reprisal attack by an angry that in the community.

According to her, “At this moment, the Divisional Police Officer in Ugep has not told me the different cult groups which they belong. Our men have taken over the area and normalcy has been restored.”

Ugbo added that no arrest had been made but that investigation was still ongoing to unravel the circumstances of the killings.

The suspected cultist that was killed, on Tuesday, known as Jboy, was reportedly a thorn in the flesh of the community and was accused of several heinous crimes, including murder and armed robbery. He allegedly tormented Ugep and nearby communities with his AK47 and arms.

However, his cup ran over when, “After killing one guy from a rival cult group yesterday, youths from Ugep came out and said enough is enough and they had to kill him too,” a source volunteered.
