Two arrested for stealing seven vehicles at Redemption Camp

Two men, Friday Ezi, and Onyekachi Atama, have been arrested for allegedly stealing seven vehicles, belonging to different individuals at the Redemption Camp, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, during various religious gatherings. 

Ezi, 43, of  No.5 Adesuah Iyamo Benin-City, and Atama, 27, of Akabigbo Street Ugwuagba Onitsha, were arrested by operatives of the Ogun State Police Command.

Their arrest followed a complaint by a woman,  Titilayo Otitodogbon,  who reported at Redeemed Camp Police Station on February 1, 2020, that she parked her Toyota Camry car with Registration Number LND 636 EZ, at Diligent Road, Redemption Camp, but on getting back to the place in the evening of the same day, the car had been removed from the park by an unknown person.

Upon her report, the Divisional Police Officer of the station, Chris Amanyi, a Chief Superintendent of Police,  detailed his detectives to swing into action and bring the perpetrators to book.

According to the Ogun Police Public Relation Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, who confirmed the arrest of the suspects, the detectives embarked on a full scale forensic and technical investigation which yielded positive result.

According to Oyeyemi, “Ezi who actually stole the car from redemption Camp was traced to Edo State where he was promptly arrested on March 10, 2020.

“His arrest and eventual confessional statement led the operatives to Onitsha in Anambra State where Atama who is his receiver and an accomplice was also arrested on the March 15, 2020.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects have stolen up to seven different cars at the Camp but they confessed to have stolen only two cars at different occasion.

“Atama who is a spare parts dealer at motor parts market in Onitsha confessed that once the vehicles were brought to him by Ezi, he balkanised it and sell such vehicles in parts,” he said.

Oyeyemi further revealed that the Commissioner of police, CP Kenneth Ebrimson who commended the investigative team for a job has, had directed that the suspects be transferred to Anti-Car Theft Section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID), for proper investigation and prosecution.
