The Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to go beyond emotional reaction, asking the federal government to reverse the ban.

“As leaders, we should go beyond emotional reaction to issues and think about how our actions will affect the people we lead and our international ratings socially and economically,” Makinde said in official reaction.

Makinde said Twitter, and social media, acts as means of communication and feedback from the people to the government.

“Twitter has become a platform for young people and, indeed, and all Nigerians, to exercise their fundamental rights to express and publish an opinion”, he said in his website which was also posted on Twitter on Saturday.

According to the governor, many people and businesses depend on the platform to do business and air their minds.

He lamented the loss of jobs and businesses due to the ban.

On Friday, Buhari’s government clamped down on Twitter after it deleted Buhari’s genocidal tweet threatening Igbos with civil war.

On Saturday, many Nigerians reported they were unable to access the platform using their service providers but only through Virtual Private Networks (VPNs).
