Travel agent ‘swindles’ visa applicant of N.880m

A 23-year-old travel agent Samuel James, was on Tuesday arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrate Court, Lagos for allegedly swindling an applicant of N880,000, under the guise of procuring a Canadian visa for him.

The defendant, of no fixed address, is facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, obtaining and stealing brought against him by the Police before Magistrate O. A. Adesina.

The Prosecuting Inspector Rosemary Ehimegbe told the court that the defendant and others still at large committed the offence sometime in 2019.

According to him, the defendant obtained the sum of N880,000, from the complainant, under the false pretence of helping him secure a Canadian Visa.

The prosecutor said the money that was stolen belongs to one Kelechi Kingsley.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge against him.

The Magistrate Mrs Adeshina granted him bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.

The case continues on November 20.
