Training: UNILORIN to partner Navy, Air Force, paramilitary forces

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Sulyman Abdulkareem, says the University will partner with the Nigerian Army and other arms of the military and the paramilitary forces on training.

Abdulkareem disclosed this when the Acting Head of the Nigerian Army Education Corps (NAEC), Brig-Gen. B. H. Mohammed, visited him in his office.

According to the University’s Bulletin issued on Monday, some officers of the Nigerian Army are currently undertaking their Masters Degree programme at the University of Ilorin Centre for Peace and Strategic Studies under the tutelage of the University lecturers.

However, the examinations would be moderated at the Nigerian Army School of Education, Ilorin.

Representing the VC, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Sylvia Malomo, noted that education is key to any sphere of endeavor in life.

He expressed his delight that the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by the two institutions was yielding intended fruit.

The Vice-Chancellor further stated that offering academic training to the military and paramilitary is part of the community service responsibility of the University.

He promised the Corps Commander that the MoU would be reviewed and updated in order to expand the programme.

He said that the institution has concluded arrangement to make the learning environment conducive and excellent.

The Acting Head of the Nigerian Army Education Corps (NAEC), Brig-Gen. Mohammed, commended the University for the Long-standing relationship between the two institutions.

He said that the University is not simply training Army officers but grooming Nigerians for strategic leadership.

Mohammed also expressed appreciation for the steadfastness of the lecturers who have been lecturing at the Nigeria Army School of Education (NASE) in Sobi, Ilorin. (NAN)
