Suspected herdsmen on rampage, kill Taraba village head, two others

Anthony Iwuoma

Suspected Fulani herdsmen have raided Zaki Terzungwe Anjua in the Bali Local Government Area of Taraba State, killing the Mai-Angwan Tiv in the Kundi District and two other persons.

The late district head had just returned from an internally displaced persons’ camp in Bali in compliance with the directive of Governor Darius Ishaku that all displaced persons in the area should be allowed unhindered access to their homes and farmlands.

The spokesman of Miyetti Allah, Murtala Usman, had earlier told reporters that the Fulani and Tiv in the local government area had resolved the feud between them after a meeting on Governor Ishaku’s directive.

It was gathered that the attackers, who had taken over the man’s farmland, might have killed him to stop him from reporting them to the governor.

The Maiangwa’s son, who escaped the attack, disclosed  that the attackers invaded their compound at night and shot his father before cutting him and two others with cutlasses.

The Executive Chairman, Bali Local Government Council, Prince Musa Mahmoud, confirmed the attack, adding, however, that the casualty figure was still sketchy.

He said, “I have received news of an attack in the area, but I have directed the DPO to go there with his team. For now, I can’t confirm any death until the DPO returns and briefs me of the development there.”
