Supreme Court verdict: Plateau Commissioner congratulates Lalong

Plateau Commissioner of Mineral Development, Mr Jude Dakur, has congratulated Governor Simon Lalong over his victory at the Supreme Court on Monday.

In a congratulatory message issued on Tuesday in Jos, Dakur described the victory as a clear indication that Lalong was the people’s choice at the March 9, 2019 governorship polls.

He pledged his support to Lalong’s led administration, adding that he would ensure a cordial working relationship with critical stakeholders in the mineral sectors to make the state the hub of mineral development.

According to the commissioner, the move would reduce over dependence on Federal allocations, by the state.

He urged the people to support the governor for the progress and development of the state.

NAN reports that the Candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the general elections, retired Lt. Gen. Jeremiah Useni, had challenged the victory of Lalong at the tribunal, but the tribunal dismissed the petition for lack of merit.

Dissatisfied with the tribunal ruling, Useni approached the Appeal Court, and the Appellate court upheld the decision of the tribunal and dismissed Useni’s appeal.

The PDP candidate also approached the supreme court faulting the decision of the tribunal and Appellate court on matter.

However, the apex court, on Monday,  dismissed the petition for lacking in merit and affirmed Lalong as duly elected governor of Plateau. (NAN)
