Sunday Igboho insists on Yoruba nation, deplores war

Anthony Iwuoma

Yoruba Nation agitator, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, aka Sunday Ighoho, has vowed to be unrelenting in the quest for self-determination for the Yoruba.

However, Igboho, who was released from detention in Benin Republic a few days ago, in a statement by his counsel, Yomi Aliyu, said the actualisation of an independent Yoruba Nation did not necessarily have to be through war, as it was achievable without firing a bullet.

Igboho called for calm among his supporters and thanked those who stood by him during his ordeal.

The activist cited the ongoing war in Ukraine and the spates of violence in some parts of South-east and added that dialogue was a better strategy for achieving self-determination.

The statement read in part: “He continues to preach against war, seeing what is happening in Ukraine and some parts of Igboland in Nigeria. He implored all, especially his kinsmen at home and in the Diaspora, to embrace dialogue in their quest for self-determination without heating up the very fragile situation in Nigeria.

“He believes that their ambition will be achieved without firing a bullet as he used to say at rallies.”
