Sule Lamido to Obasanjo: Don’t be a religious bigot

Former Governor of Jigawa State, Alhaji Sule Lamido, has chided former President Olusegun Obasanjo over comments that ‎the Muhammadu Buhari administration is out to Islamise the country.

Lamido, who had been a political ‘son’ of the former president, advised that Obasanjo should not allow the disappointment in the polity transform him to a religious bigot.

The former governor, who also advised the former president to withdraw the said statement credited to him that the outlawed Boko Haram group have an agenda of ‘Fulanisation’ and ‘Islamisation’ of the West African region, made the statement on his Facebook page, on Sunday‎.

The former president’s statement was alleged to have been said while at the Cathedral Church of St. Paul Anglican Church, Olehin Isoho South Local Government Area of Delta State.

“If it were said at a non-religious venue to a non-religious audience, MAY BE it might have been more tolerable.”

Lamido who pleaded with the former president not to allow the disappointment of the moment turn him to a religious bigot, said, “Please sir don’t let your disappointment with sitting Presidents turn you into a bigot. You MUST not abandon the National Stage.

“The cracks along the various divides in our National cohesion are already turning into huge ‘gorges’!!‎”, according to the statement.

Lamido also replied a text message sent to him to confirm the authenticity of the statement as he said, “‎Yes it is. I believe no Tribe or Race should be stigmatized on account of the action of some few!”.
