Students protest alleged rape of 18-year-old colleague by some policemen

Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) in Aba, Abia State, have been accused of raping an 18-year-old female student of the Abia State Polytechnic.

According to the students, who staged a protest on Thursday, September 23, RRS officers arrested six of their colleagues on Wednesday, but later released five of them, leaving an 18-year-old girl behind.

According to a student, “They arrested three young boys and three girls at a lodge close to the school yesterday. They took them to their station and after extortion, they released all except one girl.

The girl was later found hospitalized and said she was raped by three officers. She is still in the hospital as I speak and is said to be in critical condition, an eyewitness said.

The semester examination earlier scheduled to commence today has be postponed till further notice due to the protest.
