Son accused of killing his father over land remanded in prison

An Ilorin Magistrates’ Court on Monday ordered the remand of one Sunday Abolaji, 44, in Oke-Kura prison for allegedly killing his father, Ajamu Abolaji.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the accused is facing a one-count charge of culpable homicide.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Rhoda Kayode, told the court that the case was transferred from the Divisional Police Headquarters in Iloffa to the Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department in Ilorin on February 4.

Kayode said that on February 2, one Oluwarotimi Ajiboye of Idofin Igbana, Kwara State, reported the case at the Divisional Police Headquarters at Iloffa that one Ajamu Abolaji, 80, of Odo-Ilowu compound, Idofin Igbana, was missing.

She said that the missing man had gone to inspect his farm on February 1 and did not return.

“A search party raised by the community later found the decomposing body of Ajamu in the bush on the outskirts of Idofin, Igbana village.

“The body had the left eye removed, tongue cut off and the left hand cut from the elbow downward.

“The wife of the deceased, Mrs Deborah Abolaji, 68, suspected the accused, their biological son, to be responsible for the death of the victim.

“Upon this suspicion, the accused was arrested and during investigation, it was revealed that there was disaffection between the deceased and his son over a farmland which led to the accused threatening to kill his two parents,” she said.

She said that the offence contravened the provisions of Section 221 of the Penal Code Law.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.

The Magistrate, Bamidele Bukola, ordered the remand of the accused in prison and adjourned the case till February 26 for further mention. (NAN)
