Sen. Dickson bags Ijaw traditional title, drums support for Gov. Diri’s administration

The senator representing Bayelsa West in the National Assembly, Sen. Henry Seriake Dickson, has been conferred with the title of Utoron (1) of Ataba Kingdom (the light of Ataba Kingdom) in Andoni, Rivers State.

The Senator was conferred with the title at the interment ceremony of the mother of  Mr. Erasmus Patrick, Mrs Henrietta Fimie Patrick passed on at the age of 102.

The Governor of Bayelsa State, Sen. Douye Diri, who was also present at the ceremony, was equally conferred with the title, Oroata (i) of Ataba Kingdom, which means one who does good.

Speaking on behalf of the governor, Senator Dickson  thanked the traditional ruler of Ataba Kingdom, His Royal Highness, King Benson Mgbowaji Egwenre JP. Oruk XVII Okaan Ama of Ataba Kingdom and the entire council of chiefs for the honor done to him, his  family and  the Governor as well as the  people of Bayelsa.

According to him, over the years,  the people of Ataba and Andoni had  produced sons and daughters who have served and are still serving the Ijaw nation in various capacities.

Among those he mentioned was Mr. Erasmus Patrick, whom he described as a friend, colleague and a stalwart of the Ijaw National Council, INC, one Major Lancelot, whom he also commended for  his sterling qualities and described as a ‘ dependable brother whose support and services to me are invaluable and who has continued to render same to my successor.’

Others he mentioned include  Mr Hayford, Prince Uche Seconds, and the Ijaw Youth Council President, IYC, all of whom he said   ‘has been a pillar of support for me.’

“For me, I stand and support those who stand by me and I urge you and the entire ijaw nation to learn to stand by your sons and leaders no matter the intimidation and blackmail and learn to say no when no is the right answer,” Dickson said.

He also commended the late former  governor of Bayelsa State, Chief DSP Alamieyeseigha for promoting ‘ the Ijaw consciousness’ and starting the building of the INC headquarters in Yenagoa, a project which was later  completed and  commissioned by Dickson’s administration as governor, and christened jaw House

He called on all Ijaws to ‘extend the support and prayers that they gave to me as governor to Governor Douye Diri as he continues to serve not just as Governor of Bayelsa state but as Governor of the Ijaw nation.’
