S’East safer than most parts of Nigeria – Umahi, Ebonyi gov.

Anthony Iwuoma

The Chairman of South-east Governors Forum, Chief Dave Umahi has reasoned that the South-east region is relatively safer and more peaceful than other parts of the country.
Umahi, who is also Governor of Ebonyi State, stated this during his appearance on Channels Television’s breakfast programme, Sunrise Daily, and underscored the steps South-east governors are taking to secure the region.
He urged the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. T. Y. Buratai, to reduce the number of road blocks within the South-east geopolitical zone of the country and make commuting in the area less stressful.

He lamented the deplorable security situation across the country, which is worsened by terrorism, banditry, kidnapping and a host of other acts of criminality.
However, he was quick to add that compared to other areas in the country, South-east is relatively more secure.
“I tell you that relatively in the whole country, South-east is still better secured than any other region and I give kudos to our governors, who work day and night to ensure that this happens,” he said.
