Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Monday said he has fulfilled his electoral promise which is to provide good roads for Lagosians.

The governor spoke when he commissioned the upgraded and rehabilitated network of three roads at Victoria Island. The roads were Adeola Hopewell Street, Idowu Taylor Street and Afribank road.

According to him, he had promised Lagosians to address the “challenges of gross infrastructural degeneration and the perennial flooding issues that the people of the Lagos Central
Senatorial districts have had to contend with.”

“Today’s commissioning is, therefore, a promise fulfilled and clearly
demonstrates our audacious reforms in critical sectors of our
economy, in line with our T.H.E.M.E.S Development Agenda.

He said his administration has focused on urban renewal and development of road infrastructure, adding the repaired roads would return Victoria Island to its old glory of being “one of the cleanest and most orderly neighbourhoods in Lagos State.’

It will also address flooding which the area was known for which “has consistently impeded the free flow of traffic, extending commuting time, causing damage to vehicles, low patronage for businesses, and generally poorer quality of life for the people who work and live here.”

He enjoined residents of the area as well as offices to take ownership of the road.

In her speech, the Special Adviser on Works, Engr. Aramide Adeyoye said the rehabilitation would help to eradicate the challenge of flooding. She added Sanwo-Olu’s administration is committed to developing ‘a robust infrastructure portfolio across the length and breadth of the State that ultimately allows for a competitive business environment.’

In an earlier report, The Nigerian Xpress said The heavy flow of traffic associated with the perennial flooding in Ikoyi-Obalende area of Lagos State is now past, with the complete regeneration of four arterial roads network in the axis by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

The governor, on Friday, commissioned the newly rehabilitated Thompson Avenue, Milverton Road, McDonald Road and Lateef Jakande Road, which are all in Ikoyi, Eti Osa Constituency 2.

The roads, which have a combined length of 3.75km, were in deplorable conditions, following the failure of the aligning drainage channels.
