Sanwo-Olu, Hamzat fetes youth with carnival, robotics competition to mark  2nd term inauguration

Lagos State governor,  Babajide Sanwo Olu and his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat, on Sunday, feted youths across the five divisions of Lagos with robotics competition and carnival to kick off 11-day activities marking the 2nd term inauguration of the duo.

The carnival and the completion were held simultaneously in Ikeja, Lagos Island, Badagry, Ikorodu and Epe with the governor and his deputy represented at the events.

Sanwo-Olu and Hamzat would be inaugurated on May 29 for a second term in office.

At the Ikorodu division,  the youth competed in robotics competition, and appealed to the state government to include robotics science into their school curriculum so as to  develop their technology skills.

One of the youths, Miss Joe Halimata who is a student of CMS Girls Senior Grammar school, appreciated the governor for putting up the competiton and further urged the government to give priority to robotics studies in schools as they do to sports and entertainment.

Cash prizes were won by the competitors. Eva-Adelaja of Girls Junior Secondary school Bariga won  N100,000 as she came first,  while CMS Grammar School Girls Senior went home with N50,000 in second position and  Igbokuta Community Senior Model College, received the 3rd position with N30,000.

At the JJT Park Ikeja venue of the carnival, the governor was represented by the Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Folasade Adefisayo.

According to her,  the governor deserves a second term in office. She added that Lagosians should expect more when the second term takes off on May 29.

The Chairman of Somolu Local Government Area, Hon. Abdulhamid Salawu, commended Governor Sanwo-Olu for empowering the youths. He further said the large turn-out of youths at the competition was an indication that the youth were happy with Governor Sanwo-Olu’s performances in first term.

At the Muri Okunola Park, Governor Sanwo-Olu, was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Public Service Office, Mrs. Sunkanmi Oyegbola,

She  thanked the youths for voting Sanwo-Olu for a second term in office, adding that their participation in the robotics competition would improve their artificial intelligence.

Present also at the Muri-Okunola venue  was rhe Chairman of Iru/Victoria Island Local Council Development Area, Princess Rashidat Adu,

She commended the youths for displaying top talents at the competition.

The Badagry division was held at the Badagry Grammar School.The governor was represented by Dr Olanimoye Adeyinka, a member of the inauguration committee.

According to him,  ‘the purpose of this program is to show appreciation to the people of Badagry who has graciously given Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu the opportunity to serve the state for a second term.’

The Chairman of Badagry West Local Government, Mr. Gbenu H. Joseph, said,  “the event was important because his people need such an opportunity to appreciate Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his wonderful performance in his first term. It was his notable performance that gave him the 2nd term that we are all celebrating today.”
