Sallah: New Borno gov. orders payment of workers salary, pension arrears

New Governor of Borno State, Babagana Zulum, has given an order for the payment of workers and pensioners salary and pension arrears before the Eid-el-fitr celebration.

Governor Zulum gave the order, on Thursday, May 30.

He said the payment should be with immediate effect adding that this affects all workers who had undergone biometric data capture or yet to do before the celebration.

Governor Zulum issued the directive when Chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Bulama Abiso, led other executive members of the union on a solidarity/courtesy visit to him at the Government House, in Maiduguri.

Governor Zulum reportedly asked all permanent secretaries and heads of government parastatalls/boards/agencies to immediately compile the lists of their affected staff/pensioners before June 3, 2019, for approval and payment before the forthcoming Sallah.

“As government, we cannot allow some of our civil servants affected by the biometric data to continue to suffer without paying their entitlements for the past three years when the exercise was introduced.

“For now, I am not interested in anything called biometric data, but to see that even if it is a table payment, all those affected in the exercise should be paid pending when they are found to be guilty or collecting different salaries in the name of ghost workers,” he said.

It was learnt that a controversial biometric data of the civil servants in the state introduced by immediate past governor, Kashim Shettima, had resulted in the inability of thousands of workers to receive their salaries and pensions.
