RTEAN member docked for allegedly stabbing colleague

Noah David, a member of  Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria, who allegedly  armed himself with charms and  stabbed his colleague with a broken bottle, on Friday, appeared  before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates‘ Court.

Thirty-six-year-old David, who lives at No. 3 Oseni St., Ojoo, Lagos, is facing a four-count charge bordering on unlawful possession of firearms and assault.

The prosecution  said the accused  unlawfully assaulted Mr. Segun Edun by stabbing him on the head with a broken bottle, following an argument.

Police Sgt. Mike Unah told the court that the accused committed the offences with others still at large on Nov. 20, 2018, at 2.00p.m. at Igbede Junction, Ojoo.

Unah also  said the accused possessed  a locally made short gun which he could not give a satisfactory account of.

He added that the accused unlawfully displayed firearms at Igbede Junction putting fear in the members of the public.

“The accused was asked to step down for a caretaker committee to boost revenue at Igbede Junction but he felt cheated.

“He mobilised hoodlums armed with charms, cutlasses, guns and bottles, and attacked people working at the Junction and stabbed the complainant on the head with a broken bottle,” he said.

The alleged offences contravene Sections 173, 330, 51 and 415 of the Criminal Law, of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 173 stipulates three years’ jail term for assault.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr A.A. Fashola  admitted the accused to N250,000 bail with two sureties in like sum.

Fashola ordered that the sureties must be gainfully employed with an evidence of three years’ tax payment to the Lagos state Government.

He adjourned the case until Feb. 12 for hearing. (NAN)
