Rivers: I have parted ways with Gov Fubara – Wike

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, and former governor of Rivers State, has openly declared that he has parted ways with his successor, Governor Sim Fubara.

Speaking on Tuesday during a live media chat held with select journalists in Abuja, the former governor admitted that he and his godson are now in opposing political camps.

“You know I have decided not to bother myself about politics, but on the assignment, President Bola Tinubu gave to me. I didn’t go home for Easter. Why do you people think I have a hold on the assembly?” he askedHe denied being behind the new impeachment threats against Fubara.

He posited that Fubara has problem with the State House of Assembly for reneging on his  agreements with the lawmakers after the intervention of  President Bola Tinubu.

Wike wondered why Fubara has refused to re-present the 2024 budget after the court had invalidated an earlier budget he presented.

He accused some elder politicians in the state of lacking in integrity.

“Amaechi and Omehia are cousins. It was Amaechi who removed his picture. When I became a governor, I put his picture there. But all of them teamed up to support Atiku. Of course, what happened? They couldn’t give Atiku 10 per cent votes. We flogged them mercilessly,” the minister said.

“They are the same people who said this governor was a neophyte. They wrote a petition when this governor was to collect his certificate. They told Ayu that he was being looked for by the EFCC.”

He said the people who did not support Fubara initially only started hobnobbing with him later. He urged them to also mediate and resolve the governor’s  conflict with the House of Assembly.
