… Say development, detrimental to academic activities

Students of Ekiti State University, (EKSU) have expressed displeasure over the recent sack of over 900 staff by the Governing Council of the university and called for an urgent review of the exercise in order: ” to save their future “.
The students further lamented that they stand to bear the brunt of the university’s action.
In a press release by the university’s Students Union Government (SUG), signed by its President, Comr. Gbedero Habeeb Oluwaseyi, and made available to newsmen on Monday, the union anchored its reactions on some observations they described as already posing threats on them since the mass sack.
Speaking on behalf of the students, Gbedero said: “Our great concern for our academic life and that of our institution is that eventually, students will be at the receiving end.

“Members of staff affected include: current Deans, Heads of Departments, Level Coordinators, Projects Supervisors and current lecturers whose exams students are currently writing.
“Some of the disengaged staff had been saddled with the responsibility of catering for the students in the areas of results, sorting, supervising etc.
“What hope for final year students whose lecturers and technologists in the areas of Engineering, Agric and Sciences have been sent parking?
“The university graduates already processing their transcripts and certificates have been in a fix since the development occurred.
”We are ready to resist things detrimental to our academic life”.
The SUG however, passed a vote of confidence on the leadership of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Edward Olanipekun and urged the management to urgently meet with the leadership of the students to discuss the recent development and assure the students of the well being of their academic life: ” we beseech the principal members of the management, to as a matter of urgency, clinically review the decision of the panel for the interest of Nigerian students.
“The union, also used the medium to sympathise with the disengaged staff and hope the decision is reviewed in their favour.”
