Presidential/NASS elections: Accreditation, voting commence behind schedule in Gombe

Accreditation and voting commenced about 30 minutes behind schedule in most polling units in Gombe State metropolis, reports Correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

The Correspondent however reports that the atmosphere was calm at the polling units, with security agents keeping vigil to ensure law and order.

Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials were also on ground monitoring the conduct of the exercise.

At Kofar Tsamiya 1 and 2 units of Jekadafari area of Gombe state metropolis, the Presiding Officer,  Garba Mohammed, said voting commenced around 8.30 am and attributed the delay to the late arrival of voting  materials.

Also, in some parts of Yamaltu /Deba Local Government Area of the state, voting commenced around 9 a.m

Mr Ibu Lorlum, Presiding officer of Unguwan Bilma unit 1,2 and 3 of Liji ward of the Local Government also attributed the problem to late arrival of materials from the Local government headquarters.

“As you can see we are just arranging the place; the materials were not released early ,” he said

Also speaking,  Sylvanus Jonga, Presiding officer in charge of  Galadima 002 and 001 units of  Kwadon wards said they received the materials around 8:30 am and before they arrived at the voting point,  it was already 9am.(NAN)
