President Bola Tinubu, on Wednesday, said the job of leading the country as the President is monumental and requires the support of every Nigerian for him to succeed.
President Tinubu spoke at the Lagos House, Marina, when he was hosted by the Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo Olu.
The President was in.Lagos to celebrate this year’s Christmas celebration. According to him, the job of President is monumental and not a one man’s job.
“The job is monumental. It Is not a one man’s job, it’s a collective team, and you have to be able to listen, decipher, tolerate and sometimes what you don’t expect will happen,” he lamented.
The President said he was stunned at the news of the death of the Ondo State governor, Rotimi Akeredolu as well as that of former Speaker of House of Representatives, Ghali Naaba.
“As I was getting ready this morning, Akeredolu and Ghali Naaba’s matter came up. Power is transient, only Almighty Allah gives power and it is the only one who will take it. We see the value of life, we see goodness in what we do. The result of goodness is a multiplier of all good things that we must cherish, not for us but for our children and grandchildren.”
He admitted Nigeria is facing challenges but said his financial team led by the Minister of Finance, Wale Edun and Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Yemi Cardoso are working to turn around the economic fortune of the country.
“Nigeria has always been challenged but we will go through it. We are already seeing the blossoming of our plans. A lot of changes that will transform this economy and financial re-engineering of our country are ongoing. We are determined to take Nigeria through the tunnel, the tunnel of hope, stability and successful economic prosperity. We will work hard to give you the best economy and opportunities you can imagine,” he added.
President Tinubu commended Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat and the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa for holding forth the state. He also described the traditional rulers for being ‘dependable supporters.’
“I thank you and the deputy governor and the speaker for holding forth strongly and committing yourself to the value that you cherish together.
Lagos was not easy for many of you, but you went through it and today, Lagos State is the most viable state in the federal republic of Nigeria.
He called for the enrollment of more children in schools, adding that education and eradication of hunger are proper tools to fight poverty.
While commending the President for visiting the state, Governor Sanwo-Olu said the foundation of modern Lagos was laid by the President while serving as the governor of the state.
“Thank you for your leadership and the modern Lagos you started for us. We thank you for the fatherly and leadership role you played. We know we are going through a difficult time and it’s not peculiar to our country. There are global challenges everywhere but you hit the ground running from the first day.
