Police unmask man who jumped into Lagos lagoon

…He’s a victim of love gone sour

The Lagos State Police Command has identified the man that attempted suicide, on Thursday, as 28-year-old Princewill David.

However, he was lucky to have been rescued after jumping into the lagoon at Third Mainland Bridge in his failed suicide attempt.

Coming barely two weeks after another young man jumped into the lagoon for inexplicable reasons, David, who resides at 42, Tajudeen Balogun Street, Igando, it was gathered, wanted to end his life because he was dumped by his lover.

The Foreign Exchange (FOREX) dealer had reportedly asked the driver of the taxi conveying him to stop, as he wanted to ease himself, a request the driver turned down because of the growing trend where those on suicide mission made similar requests before taking a dive into the lagoon.

The driver reportedly sped on until he slowed that at point where the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) personnel on pin down operation around Adeniji whereupon David quickly scrambled out of car and jumped into the lagoon.

Luckily, he landed on logs of wood instead and only suffered fracture on his legs as well as injuries on other parts of his body before the policemen quickly rescued and took him to the hospital.

Asked why he wanted to kill himself, David blamed it on his lover that jilted him.

Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Bala Elkana, confirmed that David actually attempted suicide because he was heartbroken after his lover left him. However, Bala added that the victim was responding to treatment at the hospital.
