Police in Lagos stop man from committing suicide

The police in Lagos has saved a middle-aged man from taking his own life.

54 year old Akilnolu Ajayi and a staff of Lagos State government was stopped by the police from jumping into the Lagoon at the UNILAG axis on Saturday, according to a report by the State Police spokesman, Asdkunle Ajisebotu.

The statement said the anti-crime patrol team of the Bariga Police Division on a routine patrol of the area rescued the man and took him into protective custody.

The Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, has directed that the man’s family be contacted for necessary action and appeals to members of the public not to take their own lives despite the challenge.

According to the CP, such challenges are merely temporary. The Police boss further warns that such condemnable act is not only morally wrong but is also criminal.

Meanwhile the suspect has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for investigation and subsequent prosecution, the statement said.
