Police foil bank robbery in Lagos

Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command foiled a robbery attempt at an Access Bank branch along Egbe Road, by NNPC junction, Ejigbo.
An armed gang riding on a motorcycle  had stormed the bank last Friday at 9:45am.
A police patrol team that had been deployed from the Ejigbo Police Station to reinforce  the mobile policemen on guard duty at the bank, had engaged the robbers in a gun battle.
The gang leader was arrested while other members of the gang fled the scene.
Elkana Bala, the Lagos Police Public Relation Officer, confirmed the foiled robbery attempt.
Bala said, “ The armed robbers were overpowered and chased upto Egbe where their ring leader was arrested with bullet wounds while others escaped. One Brownie pistol with one live ammunition was recovered from the suspect.
“The sum of N250,000 earlier robbed from a female victim was recovered and handed over to her. Personnel of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad have taken over the investigation.”
Bala also stated that efforts were emplaced to apprehend other fleeing members of the gang.
