Police confirm murder of APC House of Assembly aspirant in Rivers

…Victim’s wife pleads for justice

The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed the murder of Benson Omunakwe, an All Progressives Congress (APC) aspirant for State House of Assembly in just-concluded 2019 election.

It was gathered that Omunakwe was shot dead, on Wednesday evening, by unknown gunmen at Agip Estate while returning to his compound in Mgbuoshimini community  same area, in Rumueme town of Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The Nigerian Express gathered that the victim, who aspired for the seat of Obio-Akpor Constituency II, was severally shot right inside his vehicle.

The state’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Nnamdi Omoni, who confirmed the incident said the Commissioner of Police, Usman Belel has ordered investigation into the killing, adding that “two persons in connection to the killing have been arrested and are helping the police in investigation”.

Omoni noted that the victim was shot dead around Agip Estate within Rumueme community in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of the state.

Meanwhile, wife of late victim, Mrs Ijeoma Benson Omunakwe has pleaded to Go of her husband.

The mother of six children, disclosed to our correspondent that she was contacted on her mobile phone by a female through her husband’s phone to come on the attack.

She said “by the time we rushed my husband to the hospital but he died at the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital because of the several gun shots on him”.

She expressed concern that her husband was shot dead leaving her with six children.
