Police arrest two officers for assaulting young woman in viral video

Police have arrested two officers, Tijani Olatunji, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) and Gboyega Oyeniyi, an Inspector of Police, for assaulting a young lady said to be an ex-corps member in Ibadan, the Oyo State Capital. 

Recall that a video of the young lady being maltreated by policemen, who was accused of being the lover of a suspected kidnapper, had gone viral.
The video attracted public outcry, as many called for the arrest of officers responsible for the dehumanising treatment. 
In response to the call, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu, ordered an investigation into the act, and the arrest of the policemen and parties responsible for the crime.

Three policemen and a civilian accomplice were allegedly fingered in the uncivilised act. While two policemen have been arrested, one other and the accomplice are yet to be nabbed. 
A statement on Thursday by the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), Frank Mba said: “ Following an investigations into the dehumanizing treatment of a female citizen as shown in a viral video on Wednesday, 22nd July, 2020, the Nigeria Police Force have identified three police officers and one civilian accomplice who participated in the unprofessional act. 
“ Two suspects, ASP Tijani Olatunji and Inspr Gboyega Oyeniyi have been arrested for their role in the discreditable conduct and incivility to a member of the public. They are currently being detained at the Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), detention facility, Panti, Yaba. 
“ Preliminary investigations show that the policemen who are attached Area ‘A’ Command, Lion Building, Lagos, were on legitimate investigation activities to Ibadan, Oyo State where the incident took place. 
“ Effort is being intensified to arrest the two other accomplices. Meanwhile, appropriate disciplinary procedure will be initiated as soon as investigations are concluded. ”
